Gran Tierra Energy Inc - GTE.t

Gran Tierra Energy Inc - GTE.t is advancing interests in producing and prospective properties in Colombia, Argentina, Peru and Brazil.

On February 12, 2013 the company reported NEWS

“Initial drilling results from the Bretaña Norte 95-2-1XD exploration well in Peru indicate oil-saturated reservoir with a gross oil column of 99 feet that was encountered approximately 48 feet higher than oil discovered at Bretaña-1 approximately four kilometers away. Three cores encompassing 90 percent of the oil-bearing reservoir section were successfully acquired. Oil samples have also been acquired and are being analyzed which, with a testing program that is currently being designed to test reservoir productivity, will assist in determining the commerciality of the discovery. As previously announced, this prospect contains substantial contingent resource potential, so these initial results are extremely exciting,” said Dana Coffield, President and Chief Executive Officer of Gran Tierra Energy. “In addition, we have successfully tested the Moqueta-8 appraisal well in Colombia and are now drilling the Moqueta-9 appraisal well, as we continue to evaluate the full potential of this growing oil discovery,” concluded Coffield."

The SS Gairsoppa silver hoard

In July 2012 news surfaced of the SS Gairsoppa.

The 412-foot British ship was shipping a cargo of silver when she was sunk by a single German torpedo on February 17, 1941 about 300 miles south-west of Galway, Ireland. The ship had a crew of 85 but only one man survived.

The Gairsoppa rests about 3 miles below the surface, and the operation to retrieve her cargo is said to be the deepest and largest precious metal recovery ever.

The salvage of 48 tons or 1.4 million ounces of silver in 1,203 bars is about 20% of what the Gairsoppa had in her hold. Bad weather halted the recovery effort.

The rest remains 15,420 feet deep in the North Atlantic. Another expedition is planned for mid-2013.

Namibia Rare Earths Inc - NRE.t

Namibia Rare Earths Inc - NRE.t is advancing the flagship Lofdal Rare Earth Project in Namibia.

The Lofdal Rare Earth Project comprises a 200 km² carbonatite complex with exceptional heavy rare earth-enrichment (>80%).

On February 7, 2013 the company reported NEWS

"Namibia Rare Earths Inc. has intersected two new mineralized zones by exploration drilling in area 6 and one new zone in area 5 at the company's Lofdal rare-earth project in northwestern Namibia. This brings the total number of discoveries at Lofdal to 17 over a two-year period, one of which has been drilled into a 43-101-compliant resource at area 4. Rare-earth mineralization occurs in these new zones over very broad widths grading 0.2 per cent to 0.7 per cent total-rare-earth oxides, with moderate levels of heavy-rare-earth enrichment (10 per cent to 25 per cent). Highlights include:"
