Police in Mexico raided a basement finding 31 gold and diamond-studded guns, presumably belonging to a drug cartel boss.

Officers in western Jalisco found gold and silver plated handguns of varying caliber studded with diamonds and engraved with the name 'Lobo Valencia". The basement in Zapopan also yielded four rifles.

Valencia is the right-hand man of Joaquin Guzman.
Saddam Hussein had a series of gold-plated weapons, including assault rifles, sub-machine guns (one of which was a Second World War British Sterling gun) and a Dragunov.

When Col Muammar Gaddafi was captured and killed, he was carrying a golden gun, one of the dictator's arsenal of customized, gold plated weapons.

Rebels captured what appeared to be a golden Kalashnikov AK-74 assault rifle - a successor to the AK-47 - from his Bab al-Aziziya compound.
